Morsi has replaced intelligence chief Mourad Mowafy with Abdel Wahed Shehata in the wake of the recent attack on the Egypt-Israel border in Sinai. Hamed Zaki has been appointed head of the presidential guard, replacing Hamdy Badin, and North Sinai Governor Abdel Wahab Mabrouk has been dismissed from his post.
The replacements follow on Sunday's bloody raid by an armed commando on an Egyptian border patrol barracks in the Sinai, which left 16 Egyptian guards dead.
Last night's Egyptian Air Force raid, in which 20 alleged militias were killed, was ''a successful operation against armed terrorists in the Sinai,'' and the military will continue pursuing their objective in the area, the Egyptian military said in a communique on Wednesday. (ANSAMed).
