Football: Barça strike deal for Jordi Alba

Croatians in lead: Mandzukic to Bayern, Real wants Modric

(ANSAmed) - ROME, JUNE 29 - Barcelona gain their first ''victory'' of the week: the Catalan club has bought Jordi Alba, left wing from Valencia, who is also one of the stars of the current Spanish team at the European Cup. The 23-year-old Spaniard will cost 14 million euros and at the end of the continental tournament will go to Barcelona for the requite medical examination and to sign a 5-year contract. Alba's arrival might see Pedro leave, the 24-year-old wing also sought by Juventus. But Barcelona's purchasing doesn't end here: president Rosell had announced having 40 million euros to invest, and so 26 are left and the first target is a central defender: either Ivanovic from Chelsea or German Hummels from Borussia Dortmund. In the meantime Real Madrid and Manchester United continue putting millions on the table for Luka Modric, ready to leave Tottenham for a Champions League club. In fact, the club from London is already seeking a substitute, possibly in the form of the Portuguese player Moutinho. Bayern Munich is also shopping around, and from Wolfsburg has grabbed the Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic (26 years old), who cost 13 million euros and is now under contract until 2016.

Also heading to Germany - except this time to Borussia Moechengladbach - is Alvaro Domínguez, a defender who came of age on Athletic Bilbao and is getting 8 million euros. The Basque club, after having confirmed Marcelo Bielsa on the bench, console themselves bringing home another young player from the ''nursery'', Aritz Aduriz, returning to Bilbao from Valencia for 2.5 million. Italy's market is still slow, and might end up losing one of its best defence players of the new generation: the young Cagliari player Astori, who Spartak Moscow are after and for whom they are offering 15 million euros. A young player on his way might well be Hachim Mastour, a 14-year-old quarterback from Reggiana.

Born in Italy to Moroccan parents, he might be headed for Milan - which after the explosion onto the scene of the extremely skilful Egyptian-Italian El Sharawy, is looking keenly towards the North African market.

Milan's problem is still Thiago Silva: the Brazilian wants a pay rise and so the deal might see him leave for Paris Saint Germain - which in the meantime have denied (through general director Leonardo), seeking Kakà. It's also from Paris that Antoine Kombouaré is leaving: the coach fired half way through last season to make way for Ancelotti has signed a two year contract with Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal.(ANSAmed).
